Ask a regular, not a ranking
Rankings measure popularity. Regulars measure return visits — and that’s the number that finds you the good rooms.
A top-ten list tells you where everyone went once. A regular tells you where one person goes every week, which is a far stronger signal — nobody returns weekly to a place that’s merely fine. The places that hold regulars are doing something rankings can’t see.
Reading for regulars
You can spot a regulars’ room from the door: staff greeting people by name, orders arriving unasked, a table that has clearly hosted the same four people every Thursday since the beginning of time. In reviews, the tell is tenure — “been coming here for years” outweighs any adjective.
When you review somewhere, say how often you go — it’s the detail that matters.
