Meghan Shelke: backing Auckland's Marathi community

Some sponsors write a cheque and collect a logo placement. Meghan Shelke turns up. The Arizto salesperson — one half of Team Brian & Meghan, working Central and West Auckland — spent this year as title sponsor of the Auckland Maharashtra League T20 tournament and a sponsor of Matruka: Beyond the Nayika, the Bharatanatyam production staged at the Green Bay High School Auditorium.

The long road to real estate

Shelke's path into property started in hospitality: a postgraduate diploma in hotel management at PIHMS — Pacific International Hotel Management School (2005–06). She has held a real estate salesperson's licence since 2008 (REAA 2008), selling first with Barfoot & Thompson before moving to Arizto — the agency founded in 2018 around a flat-fee commission model, with salespeople across the country.

Her patch is unglamorous and personal in equal measure: Massey, Birkdale and Glen Eden — the suburbs where first homes actually get bought, and where a salesperson's reputation is built one settlement at a time.

Sponsorship as belonging

The two sponsorships tell one story. The League filled the Auckland Domain with community cricket for its fifth season; Matruka put a guru lineage on a West Auckland stage. Both run on volunteers and local backing, and both carried her name not as an outsider's advertisement but as a member's contribution.
