Five seasons strong: the Auckland Maharashtra League lights up the Domain

By 8am the Auckland Domain was already humming. Gazebos up, boundary ropes down, and the first over of the Auckland Maharashtra League's fifth season bowled under a clear February sky. Run by the Auckland Marathi Association, the T20 tournament has grown from a friendly hit-around into one of the community's biggest days on the calendar.

Teams from across Tāmaki Makaurau traded overs through the day while the sidelines did what sidelines at community cricket do best — kids with plastic bats replaying every dismissal, grandparents holding court in the shade, and a steady queue at the food stalls, where Snack Wack and Swaad Foods kept the tournament fed from the first drinks break to the last.

Community sport runs on volunteers and sponsors. The cricket is the excuse; the day together is the point.

Seasons like this don't happen without backing. The 2026 edition was carried by title sponsors Team Brian & Meghan (Arizto) and Lending HQ, with co-sponsors Tulip Financial and Disha & Ebhaan Homes — local businesses putting their names behind a community they're part of, not just a banner at a ground.

For Meghan Shelke, whose Arizto real estate team took title billing for the tournament, the sponsorship is an extension of years spent working in the same West Auckland suburbs many of the players call home.
